An orphan's life turns brighter after he discovers a massive piece of fruit in "James and the Giant Peach." Inside that peach, James finds special friends like Ladybug played by Donica Lynn in the Drury Lane Theatre for Young Audiences' production of Roald Dahl's tale, with book by Timothy Allen McDonald and songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
"We sing songs and keep James occupied and we become a little family inside the peach," Lynn said.
James enters the peach feeling dejected. "He doesn't think that anyone is interested in what he has to say," Lynn noted. That changes when the boy acquires an insect family.
They tell him, "We're interested in what you have to say," Lynn related. "We think that you're smart. We think that you have good ideas."
The musical runs through June 16 at 100 Drury Lane, Oakbrook Terrace. Tickets are $17; $33 for adults and $29 for children 12 and under for a buffet/theatre package.
